ABOUT

DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT

For the last few years, my mother has been losing her battle with Alzheimer’s, and in many ways, Driftwood is my attempt to make sense of this nonsensical illness. Beneath its thriller plot and sci-fi premise, this is a story about love, grief, memory, and the healing power of dreams. About our need to find meaning and connection amidst tumultuous times.

My approach to directing Driftwood echoed the film’s central conceit of entering a shared subconscious. Early on, I encouraged the cast and crew that everyone’s ideas were welcome, even though I couldn’t promise they’d always make it to the page or screen. The end result is exactly what I initially envisioned, except it has now been enriched by the creative input of everyone involved. Only through a profoundly collaborative process could I have created such a personal film. My hope is to now share this fever dream of a film with audiences, in all its epic, surreal, terrifying, comedic, and heartbreaking glory.
